with a fleet of secret service and cop cars surrounding them. and in the silver state... it's becoming a norm. tim: it's very taxing reno police along with sparks pd, washoe county and nevada highway patrol are working around the clock to accommodate the secret service and the candidates. tim: the secret service ranks each candidate by tier level. the higher the tier, the more security they need from local law enforcement. for example... when a high-tiered candidate like hillary clinton came to reno monday... local agencies were informed two weeks before her appearance was even announced to the public so they could come up with a game plan. tim: we're all on the same sheet of music, we're on the same radio frequency so we know where everybody is at, where the candidates at, when they're leaving, where they're going to be going, so we can makes sure we can keep them safe and the community informed. each candidate has and will make a visit before the nevada caucuses ... which means extra security... and inevitable overtime. but the agencies know
11:06 pm
the year... to make sure the city and county's time and money are used efficiently. tim: we try to use as many officers as possible that are working on shift. we have swat officers, traffic officers that work 24/7 so we try to use them and reschedule them. if you are going to visit the candidates... reno police urge you to get there early....parking may be limited. and bring as few belongings as possible inside. bernie sanders and hillary clinton have already made their visits this week... jeb bush, ted cruz and donald trump have scheduled visits to reno next monday and tuesday. in the studio...cvk8nn. as catherine mentioned-- three republican presidential candidates are coming to northern nevada next week. jeb bush will start his silver-state tour in southern nevada on sunday, but will be in reno monday night. he'll have a town hall event at huffaker elementary you'll need to register for this event, if you want to attend. ### donald trump will speak at a rally at the nugget casino resort at

gunshots inside a home block of key-oh keogh drive. this happened a little before 3 o'clock this morning. gordon mellinger was charged with child a firearm into a police say two women and two teenage girls the time. the women over the back yard... where they were able to escort her to safety. she told officers-- mellinger fired two shots inside the home. he eventually came out of the house, and was arrested. nobody was hurt in the incident. police say mellinger has a history of mental illness. ### the nevada department of wildlife had to kill a herd of bighorn sheep to save the remaining healthy bighorns. the herd from the montana mountains, had an aggressive form of pneumonia. montana mountains are north of winnemucca-- along the oregon, and nevada border. the decision was made to "de-populate" the herd now, because there was concern-- diseased sheep would
11:09 pm
spread the disease. a total of 24 sheep were killed. this is the first time nevada has had to eliminate an entire herd, to protect others. ### nevada's effort to embrace renewable energy... took a big step forward today. governor sandoval is entering nevada-- into an agreement, to share ideas and resources with 17 states. it's called the "governors' accord for a new energy future." this agreement would allow nevada to export excess energy the state is currently generating, to states like california. "what i hope it leads to the construction of even more solar fields, the construction of more geothermal sites. they will build some of the out of state utilities and we will enter into what are called purchase power agreements and we will sell our energy to them." california law requires 50-percent renewable energy use, by the year 20-30. they can't make enough of it... so they'll buy it
11:10 pm
the accord goes far beyond just solar and geothermal. it also touches on ideas like nevada's electric highway, and a reduced reliance on foreign oil. ### driving in washoe valley--- when there is strong winds is scary. but a new warning system could prevent crashes in the future.
